Two local businesses have teamed up to challenge others to donate to the Lincoln City Police Department’s K-9 program’s fund raising efforts and help reach the fundraising goal of $75,000.00.  Meredith Lodging and Oksenholt Capital are joining forces in a matching funds campaign to fully fund the Lincoln City Police K9 Project. Meredith Lodging and Oksenholt Capital’s campaign will donate up to $10,000 in matching community donations between now and December 31st to help get this project fully funded.

The members of the Lincoln City Police Department are excited about the donation match challenge and we appreciate Meredith Lodgeing’s and Oksenholt Capital’s support of the K-9 fund raising effort. We would again like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all the citizens, businesses and organizations who have already donated to the fund raising efforts for the department to obtain and implement a K-9 program. The response and support thus far from the public for the implementation of the K-9 program has been phenomenal and approximately $55,000 of donations have been received.

Below is the full letter of intent from Meredith Lodging and Oksenholt Capital with their statement of commitment to the Lincoln City community and the K-9 program. Oksenholt Capital and Meredith Lodging Launch A $10,000 Matching Funds Campaign to Fully Fund the Lincoln City Police K-9 Project

Lincoln City, OR.  Meredith Lodging and Oksenholt Capital are joining forces in a matching funds campaign to fully fund the Lincoln City Police K9 Project. The mission of the K-9 Project is to promote a positive relationship between the community and the Lincoln City Police Department through education on the modern day use of the Law Enforcement K9. The campaign will match up to $10,000 in donations up to the end of the year.

Aaron Linfoot, Vice President of Operations for Meredith Lodging noted, “The entire city benefits from this important program and we want to encourage the community to donate between now and the end of the year. Meredith Lodging is committed to investing in the success of the communities where our employees live and work, and where our Meredith Lodging Owners have homes.”

“We are honored to join Meredith Lodging in matching community donations between now and December 31st to get this project to the finish line,” said Oksenholt Capital CEO Jon Oksenholt. “The police work hard to keep our communities safe. Statistics show the need for and benefit of a police department utilizing a K9 Unit to help reduce crime. In addition, numerous studies show the positive impact a K9 Unit brings to the police force.”

A fully funded program will cover the cost of K9 handler courses and certifications, as well as necessary equipment for the dog, such as K9 vests, transportation equipment and a kennel. 

“We are grateful to Oksenholt Capital and Meredith Lodging for stepping in to help us get to the finish line on funding this project,” commented Officer Holly Blakely, who is spearheading the project. “This project kicked-off last February and we are thankful for the community support we have received so far. We have $20,000 left to go and with this generous donation and match, Oksenholt Capital and Meredith Lodging will help us get there much faster.”

We all love a good snow day on the coast!! Hopefully by this time next year we will have our own Lincoln City K9 to play in the snow too!

Police Association Donation

Lincoln City Police Employees Association made a donation of $1000.00 dollars to the K9 Fund.

The Police Association fully supports this program and is happy to donate to the fund.

An Exciting Announcement

The City of Lincoln City and the Lincoln City Police Department are proud to announce the establishment of the Lincoln City Police K9 Program. Our Website is www.lincolncityk9.com.

Police Departments around the state are expanding with K9 police programs because they recognize the value they bring to their departments, along with the added safety they bring to their communities. It is the goal of our K9 unit to help prevent crime, keep the community safe and add tremendous value to the Lincoln City Police Department. The K9 police officers are critical to police work in our small town where the number of sworn officers is small and the transient population and area to cover can be very large.

As with other towns and departments throughout the state, our community will be fortunate to have a dedicated police officer who acts as the handler for our K9 police officer.  Handlers are trained to work with their K9 partners and provide for their care and feeding while they are off duty.  We will acquire our K9 police doge though a certified training program that trains these dogs for the purpose of police and public safety work.

Both the chosen K9 Officer and their dog will receive extensive training. The public should feel safe around this dog and we encourage opportunities to interact with it. K9 police officers are also important in strengthening the relationship between police departments and the community they are protecting.

As the community becomes acclimated to our newest officer by seeing their ability to prevent crime and make our community safer, we anticipate that we’ll be able to continue the support for the K9 unit from the community.

The estimated cost to start-up and introduce a K9 police unit into the community is $75,000, with a low annual cost to maintain them.  The average work life of a K9 police unit is between 8 and 9 years.

We are asking for support from our community.  The donations that we receive will help cover the costs of the K9 handler courses and certifications, as well as necessary equipment for the dog, such as ballistic K9 vests, vehicle insert designed for transport of a police dog, and the construction of a kennel for the K9’s housing.
